Did you know Bournemouth is home to a variety of restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world which are surprisingly better than the classic chain restaurants across the UK? Here are my top 3 you should try if you are ever visiting the vibrant seaside town.
1) 7 Bone
For the ultimate burger experience head to 7 Bone where you will get to choose from the tastiest burgers Bournemouth has to offer. All the burgers are made fresh to order and there are plenty to choose from. My go-to choice, and a 7 Bone favourite, is the ‘Prince Charles is overrated’ – made up of a beef patty with bacon and cheese topped with their special dirty burger sauce. I usually pair this with their dirty fries in the red basket deal, while there is also another fantastic option for sides in their Chilli Cheese Fries.
Unfortunately, you cannot make reservations here, instead you will need to just turn up and put your name on a waiting list. This place is extremely popular so make sure to get there early. I promise the waiting time is worth it if you love burgers!
2) Funchal by Night
Ever tried Portuguese food? If not visit Funchal by Night, a family run traditional Portuguese restaurant in the heart of Bournemouth town centre. Here you will discover the classic dishes of Portugal, from tasty meat dishes to fresh fish. My favourite go to dishes are:
Chouriço – Portuguese sausage cooked to perfection.
Bitoque – Thin pork steak with chips, rice & salad. This meal looks simple but is delicious and surprisingly difficult to replicate at home (I’ve tried many times and failed).
My drink of choice is Sumol, a popular Portuguese fizzy drink, as it’s what I get it whenever I’m in Portugal and it’s one of the things I look forward to most when visiting Funchal by Night. My favourite flavour is pineapple (ananas), but it also comes in many other flavours such as orange and passion fruit. If you fancy a beer, why not try Portuguese classic beers Sagres or Superbock.
All in all, the reason I love this place is because it lets you escape the UK and try a taste of authentic Portuguese food without needing a holiday!
3) Tiien Thai
For authentic Thai food you must check out Tiien Thai in either the Bournemouth or Westbourne restaurant. The flavours are so magnificent they will leave you craving more. To start I shared chicken satay and pork spareribs. The ribs were extremely meaty and came away from the bone easily – I would 100% recommend starting with this.
Moving onto the mains I had the red Thai curry with sticky rice – the aromatic flavours were delightful together with the right amount of spice. Top tip - you can ask for your curries to be cooked with more spice if you love a hot curry!
I also tried the chicken Pad Thai which was incredible and of course a classic Thai dish that you can never go wrong with.
Overall, the experience was amazing and definitely a restaurant I will continue to visit for my Thai fix.
Honourable mentions:
Key West Bar and Grill - Soak in the sun and enjoy the Pier atmosphere.
Koh Thai Tapas - Tasty Thai food with a twist + superb cocktails.
Aruba - Enjoy a refreshing cocktail or 2 by the sea.
Cornish Bakehouse - My favourite spot to get my sausage roll fix.
La Piccola Italia - Authentic homemade Italian food located in Lansdowne.
MyShake - Smoothies and milkshakes in the flavour of your choice.
